Lerici is situated on the Golfo dei Poeti (Gulf of the Poets). Two of the most famous poets who spent part of their life here were Percy Bysshe Shelley and Lord Byron.
You can still visit Shelley's former home at Villa Magni. Some of his verses have been immortalised here on tablets of marble.
The Castello, which rears up majestically high above the attractive old town, now houses the Museo Geopaleotologico (Tue-Sun 10.30 – 13.00, 14.30 – 18.00). The museum's displays include dinosaur robots, possible scenarios of the future and a simulated earthquake.
Why not visit the long, sandy beach in San Terenzo, a small suburb of Lerici, and take a dip in the sea?
