In the 4th century Vence was a bishopric. Today the Chapelle du Rosaire houses the main works of Henri Matisse (Tue/Thu 10.00 – 11.30, 14.30 – 17.30, July/Aug. also Wed/Fri/Sat 14.30 – 17.30, closed Nov. /Dec.). The nuns of the order request that visitors refrain from talking and content themselves with looking.
The Musée Carzou museum of local history is situated by the Palace of the Lords of Villeneuve and recalls the history of the town. A visit is strongly recommended!
