The old salt street (Via del Sale)
The old salt street which leads from Genoa to Varzi (Piemont) (442 km long) is an old mule path from the Middle Ages. It was named after the most important product which used to be exchanged there. Salt was indispensable for the storage and preservation of food in those days. Today it is a beautiful walk today on which one can discover much. There is still an untouched flora and fauna in the forests. If you are lucky, you will perhaps come across some deer. In addition you will pass by many castles and churches. You can also go through only stages of the salt street. The level of difficulty of the street ranges from simple to medium.
The Ligurian high-altitude walkway (Alta Via dei Monti Ligure)
The ligurian high-altitude walkway is approx. 440 km long and extends from Ventimiglia to Ceparana (beginning of Tuscany). In this walkway the unique views from the mountains down to the sea are particularly very impressive. The walkway is divided into 43 stages which can very well also be tackled separately. There are also many sections suitable for the handicapped as well as for baby carriages, such that everybody can experience the breathtaking nature.
The Cinque Terre walking paradise
The small famous five fishing villages Vernazza, Riomaggiore, Manarola, Monterosso and Volastra are only connected to each other through walkways. Besides, one may only travel to the national park by train and by boat. The car must be left in the outskirts of the villages. The probably best known walkway is the Via dell Amore which connects Manarola with Riomaggiore. There are many benches along this walkway on which one can relax and enjoy the breathtaking views over the sea and the steep shores. Nature comes first in this place. The walkways range from the simple to the challenging. The climate of the 5 villages (Terre) is very pleasant throughout the year and is therefore suitable for discovering the walkways all year round. One can get good card material directly at the Cinque Terre national park.
The Portofino national park
Portofino is not only a place for the beautiful and rich but also a diving paradise and a marvelous national park for walking with diverse fauna and flora. The national park was founded in 1935 and claims 3100 hectares as its own. It extends from Portofino to Ruta. A very beautiful stretch with breathtaking views is, for example, that from Portofino through the Monte Portofino to Portofino Vetta. One can then make a small excursion from here to Camogli with the bus so as to again travel back to Portofino by ship. Another beautiful walkway is the Via di San of Fruttuoso through which one connects from Ruta to Vetta di Portofino.
The Beigua national park
The Beigua national park is located near Varazze and is the biggest walking park with an area of 8715 hectares in Liguria. It was founded in 195….. The park offers nature scenery with its impressive fauna and flora unique especially in the mountains. Probably the most interesting walkway is the section of the Ligurian high altitude walkway which goes through the park completely.
The Piana Crixia national park
The Piana Crixia national park lies in the hinterland of Savona near Altare. It was founded in 1989 and has an area of 795 hectares. It is above all worth seeing because of its unique nature creations like the 15 m high mushroom which formed themselves out of the rocks. The walking park connects Liguria with Piemont.
